Half a day on the Trishuli or three days on a wilder river, camping on the sand between rapids.
Nepal's rivers come off the Himalaya, which is why the rafting is as good as it is. There is a run for every appetite, from a splashy afternoon to several days of serious water.
Trishuli — the accessible one, on the Kathmandu–Pokhara road, so it costs no extra travel. Half a day or a full day, fun rather than frightening, and fine for beginners and families.
Seti — two gentle days near Pokhara with warm water and good beach camping. The best introduction to river camping.
Kali Gandaki — three days of continuous, committing white water through a deep gorge with no road beside it. For people who have rafted before.
Licensed river guides, safety kayaker, helmets and buoyancy aids, dry bags and — on the multi-day runs — tents, a kitchen and everything cooked on the sand.
September to early December is the classic window, with high, clear water after the monsoon. March to May is warmer and lower.
